We found a great camping place off the Savannah Way in the Northern Territory called Lorella Springs. This is a must see with heaps to do and see and is great for kids, with rock water slides, clear natural thermal spring swimming holes and many kilometres of coast line and rivers. The fishing is unbelievable. A little bit off the beaten track but worth it when you get there. You need at least a week, I guarantee you'll love it.

Yes nice spot we stayed there a couple of years ago, Rhett the owner suffered a nasty accident recently, the result of a snatch strap breaking as they were towing a large tire to smooth out the track.

Thanks for that link to Lorella Springs. Snatch straps can be deadly. I have seen a couple of accidents with them.
Always make sure that the anchor points on vehicles or whatever is being snatched (or towed in this case) have a Safe Working Load which is much more than adequate for the task. Always remember that this is a shock load even though the snatch strap will provide some give up to the point of failure. But the failure then becomes a high velocity rebound.
Always stay well clear of the likely trajectory of a failed strap or anchor point. That is not always easy for the drivers of the vehicle being recovered or the recovering vehicle.

Always easy to be wise after the event but the use of fencing wire in the link between the vehicle and the grader tyre is just a failure waiting to happen.

I prefer a winch for recovery (slow but sure and low stress) and a chain or webbing strap for towing or snigging.

Great looking place for the 'Bucket List' Sorry to hear about the owners accident but he should have known better than using a snatch strap in that application. A drag chain be have been a far better option and a lot cheaper than chewing up a good quality snatch strap.

It would be a great temperature up there at this time of year - 0' degrees here this morning - even the sheep are whinging Laughing Laughing

Thanks for your post on Lorella Springs Ted and Narelle. We are heading off in 3 weeks time. Making our way up to Bushtracker to get our 1 year old Bushtracker serviced then making our way to Darwin via Kingfisher Camp, King Ash Bay and Roper Bar. After seeing your post and looking at the web site we intend stopping at Lorella Springs as well. Looks great.
