Just completing a week in Perth, heading north tomorrow.
Any free camp recommendations up the WA coast, would be appreciated.
We tend not to travel large distances each day, prefer to enjoy the local areas. _________________ Grumpy |

In Geraldton for a couple of days after spending most of week around Coalseam Cons Park and nearby towns. Some great camping spots, unfortunately most wild flowers are not out yet but plenty of Canola plantings flowering. _________________ Grumpy |

Well we’re in Townsville enjoying the nice weather and catching up with friends, and visiting some great fish and chipperies I remember from past years. Man has this place grown up the past 30 yrs since I left. We’re staying out at the Black River Stadium. Bit of feedback follows;
Being built in the old Black River Rodeo grounds the van park site is a bit primitive, no grass to speak of, no concrete pads, but plenty of weed ground cover and a fair walk to very good amenities. Very large and comprehensive camp kitchen, a $5.00 meal ( soup, stews, with Bread & Butter, BYO drinks bowl ‘n spoon) get together on Wednesday night (pre book/pay), beer o’clock every afternoon, lots of tables and chairs, seat about 80 or so, and very very good showers, with 5 large reverse cycle heat pump hot water systems, very large shower cubicles with shower curtains and perforated floor mats so you are off the concrete and can actually dry your feet.
About 8/10 Speed queen washing machines, at $3.00 a pop, and a drier and plenty of line space, good value compared with town laundries and other van parks.
They cater to the over 50’S, and have a dedicated off lesh dog area, dogs must be on leash and kept on site otherwise, no dog walking around the park area. There is also an under cover dog bath/wash facilities, and a separate washing machine for dog bedding/blankets etc set up in the off leash area. Very thoughtful.
All in all a good spot, but if wet or soaking rain, because of the silt avoid like the plague, the whole area used to be a flood plain, and if a significant protracted rain event, like a 1 in 100 or 200, would flood for sure, but local heavy rain would lead to jelly like sticky surface mud. Might sound harsh but a fair assessment.
Where we ended up we had to string 2x 30m leads for power, and join two 20m hoses for water. The water comes from the river via a sand spear, and seems fairly good, but only for the back 2 tanks. But for $30 per night Vs 49 or so in town, the 50c of diesel to drive in is a good compromise. Every shop imaginable at the Willows, within 10-12 min drive, very large Bulk bill medical practise, specialist medical campus, wholesale chemists, - OK if you don’t want Anpec, - movie theatres, restaurants, take always, vehicle services, a big Centrelink office, and rehabs of parking, with minimal delay for service for a change etc, etc.
I would recommend this place to fellow BT’ers, say 7/10, who like a bit of peace and quiet, large sites, a bit of space, more than 5m from neighbours, but like to mingle a bit too. Friendly staff. Not a Big 4 flash park, more like a bush camp with facilities , and definitely no jumpy pillows, playground, kids or pool, go lay in the river.
Edit; There is also a fitness shed with walking and rowing machines.
Heading off to Innisfail tomorrow to visit more friends for a few days before heading back down the inland route to Agnes Waters for a 5 week property sit. Looking forward to that..... _________________ The Wandering Rosiebears...

Grumpy, Had a look at that park, but they were chokers last week, overflow paddock 3/4 + full/.
Had a great day today, went up Harvey range and up all the side roads, didn’t visit the tea rooms because they closed at 4. So that is definitely a stop off on the way back. We are going to come back down this way cross Black Riv Rd to Harvey’s Ra Rd, then over to the Gregory Develmpt Rd, down to the Towers for a day or two, then south to Clermont, then across to Nebo, then down the old Marlborough stretch to Rocky and Yeppoon for a few days then to Agnes Waters. _________________ The Wandering Rosiebears...

We are in Bourke after having beed to the Louth races yesterday. We have had a great trip to date and will move onto Inverell in the next couple of days. Still too cold to go back home to Victoria as yet so we will make our way back to the Sunshine Coast after this short adventure. The BT is performing faultlessly as per usual. Thank you to all at Kunda Park.

Bake in Forrest Beach just outside Ingham for a few more days before heading off down to Townsville for another friends catch-up before the southerly trek begins. _________________ The Wandering Rosiebears...

We are in a motel near Grafton for the night . We are on the road to Kunda Park to take delivery of our first Bushtracker. We are so excited and can’t wait for Tuesday morning when we eyeball and touch our BT for the first time. _________________ Regards,
