Hi all, how do people find their pull out pantry? Would you have preferred 2 shelves instead, working out space and access for storage. I imagine you can fit more on the shelves, but is it easy enough to make use of that space? Would you get the slide out again? How limited are you in what you can fit and do you find weight an issue? Thanks guys!

Re pull out pantry, we have had both, shelves in our last van which we found ok but we much prefer the pantry in our new van. We find there is more usable space like under the bottom rack ther is enough room to store extra milk cartons, wraps all sorts of boxed goodies. 👍

Hi Fishvan. I have a 2 tier pull out pantry with 2 draws below. I use the bottom draws for the heavier items like cans and the pull out for the lighter stuff like cereal and the like. I like the versatility of this layout.
Regards Harry

Pull out pantry racks are cute..... Smile
From a household perspective very cute and stylish... Wink

Now the truth from experience: In the Outback on corrugated roads, everything jumbles up and you have to take time to reach in and sort it out just to get it rolled out. Not only that, but you get at least a third to half again more (more like twice as much) on a shelf if you pack it in tight. If you fill the open space with paper towels or towels so nothing moves around, it does not chafe or jumble up. Shelves are not as cute, but a heck of a lot more functional.

It is just not what the suburban inexperienced People want to see at the Shows. So yes we put them in the Show Vans, but will tell People the disadvantages when they come to Order. You can have them if you want, but you will get a lot more packed into a shelf, and fill the whole volume of the area...

It is not what People want to hear, but this is the voice of experience. You can have whatever you want, but we are still going to tell you the pros and cons of the decisions... Because it is what the inexperienced and suburban types expect and like, it is even in my own Bushtracker. But that is because it is still a Show van, not because it is what I would have for the functionality. I think the experienced would agree, by about a margin of 80%...

Thanks Fishvan for starting this topic.

Also thanks to Steven for your voice of experience.

Steven when you advise shelves for functionality, are you recommending cupboards with fixed shelves and hinged cupboard doors?

Hello Kathy and Ian,

Look, in the design phase we have other options that work better and are more functional for the volume of storage. We would go through that with you in the design stage of details.

One is a little lip on the shelf, to keep things in there, in the pantry sort of area. Another is a little slide out shelf, like a very low profile drawer, like a slide out shelf. This is handy for shorter people, that might have a little trouble reaching the back of the top shelf in a pantry situation.

Anyway, the slide out baskets look cute at the shows, and in a big home kitchen they are an advantage. However, in the Outback bad tracks, they are a pain in the tookus as things jumble up and jam up, and further not nearly as much available storage area as the rack is smaller and has clearances all around. You also cannot overload it and pack it in...

Kind regards, Director

We have a pull out pantry for our kitchen at home but did not want one in our Bushtracker for exactly the reasons that Steve stated - we opted narrow deep drawers which we have fitted with a selection of Sistema boxes for loose ingredients. We store cans in the drawers and keep the bottled stuff in a bucket in another big drawer under the gas hob that could be converted to a microwave in the future - we don't thing it will be! The drawers work really well for us and everything stays put - happy campers. Hunter L
